It’ll Never Happen
“Hi Sarah, good to see you! Just a moment, I’ve got something you should see.” Tina put her handbag down and fumbled in it for a second, bringing out a paperback book with a bright yellow cover. “Remember you were all worried about climate change and peak oil and the end of the world last week? I just read this new book by Alfred Crank that says aliens will come from space and teach us everything we need to know to avoid climate change and turn the world into a veritable garden of Eden.”
“Oh good,” Sarah said. “To think I was so worried!”
“Yes. We don’t have to worry at all. Let’s go shopping!” Tina said, grabbing her friend by the arm.
Two hours later, they separate with their bags of clothes and knicknacks. Before getting into her car, Sarah turns to her friend with a worried look on her face and says “But what if they don’t arrive?”
“I guess we’d be screwed then,” Tina says. “But don’t worry about it, it’ll never happen.”
